Miss Peggy Lee

This is a wonderful bit of footage from 1950. Peggy Lee first heard the song in the 1940s. It was a hit on "Race Records" by a blues singer named Lil Green. In the way of such things Miss Lee "borrowed" it and had a hit with Benny Goodman.  It became part of her repertoire. I love the way she sings, "get out of here". The guitarist she keeps rolling her eyes at is her first husband, Dave Barbour.

The Chase Center

On Thanksgiving Day, Madame Le Chef and I, wanting to take a walk, went to the nearby neighborhood of Mission Bay and visited The Chase Center, which is the home arena of the Golden State Warriors. There was no game so all the buildings were closed but it was interesting to walk around.

As I have mentions in several posts, none of these buildings existed 20 years ago. It was an area of underutilized  train yards. The buildings have been built over the last two decades and the Chase Center only opened this year.

Although the Warriors were not around, their icons were.

Mission Bay is home to one of the campuses of UCSF, the medical school of the University of California. We happened to watch a helicopter taking taking off from the roof of a nearby hospital.

South Dakota Part 2

When we were stopped in the middle of the buffalo herd I took a short video with my iPhone.

South Dakota

Some dear friends invited Madame Le Chef and me to visit them at their vacation home in the Black Hills outside of Rapid City, SD. Even their backyard is mighty scenic.

It turned out that the Bad Lands were only about an hour's drive away. I had heard references to them in various Westerns but didn't realize that they are beautiful.

The Bad Lands are the floor of a primordial ocean.

Our friends have a friend who owns a Buffalo ranch. We went to visit her and she drove us in a Chevy Suburban, without doors, into the middle of the herd and then turned off the motor.

Aside from the mosquitoes, it was wonderful.

Sylvan Lake is in the extended neighborhood and it's beautiful.

Finally we had to visit two man made wonders, Mount Rushmore and The Crazy Horse Memorial. It seemed appropriate to photograph the presidents from the cafe.

It's going to take a long time to finish the memorial.
